Chapter five of the "Global Achievemnt Gap" was about how to motivate the students and how to prepare them for the outside world. *The chapter starts out talking about how the kids today have very poor work ethics. After reading that it made think about the people at my work. At my work most of the teenagers are very lazy and do not like being told what to do. In the book Wagner says that some peope think that kidsw today do not have poor work ethics, rather they are motivated in different ways.
*Wagner then went on to talk about how kids todat are always doing many things at once and not just focusin on getting one task done at a time. He talks about how much of this has to do with the rapid growth of technology in the past few years. Kids today always talking on the phone, textting, or on the internet.
*He then talks about how we should use these technology adavances to our on advantage in the classroom. Kids of today learn new information differently then people used to, so we should teach thm in the sme way that they are more familery with.
*Many of the kids today do want to be challenged and fell like they are able to accomplish things on their own. Teachers need to let the kids figure things out on their own but also help them along to.
*He then talked about the importance of student-teacher relationships. He says that kids need to be able to feel like they can talk to their teacher and to also be able to somewhat relate to their teachers as well.
