Group Nine Presentation
Group nine did their presentation on chapter 13. They talked about ways to motivate students to learn. Some ways were to get to know your students, use examples freely, and give students aas much control of their education as you can and test them in a lot of varities of ways. Overall the presentation really good and informative.
The Global Achievement Gap: Chapter 6
- Chapter six of Wageners book "the Global Achievement Gap", he writes about the network of charter schools in Sandiego, California. The charter school were called High Tech High. the school has been recognized because of their great turn out rate of student achievement.
A thing that set HIgh Tech High apart from other palces was the fact that they did not use textbooks as a way to learn things they used more projects and made it so the kids went out and found the information on their own.
High Tech HIgh also wanted to increase the number of students doing well in math and enginerring because in most schools they aer the two areas we fall most behind in.
The schools of High Tech Hih wanted to prepare their students for the outside world that they are going to have to face after they gradute from high school.
I feel like this school is taking us a step closer to reforming are schools and making them moer about teaching the kids and less about the adults

Two Schools in Afghanistan, One Complicated Situation

when two new schools were belt in Afghanistan many poeple thought that it was a great victory in helping the people but we have recently found out that one of the schools is empty and has been empty for a long time. Just because you throw mony down to buy a school for someone does not mean that they will take and go with it in the way that you want. The school was about an hour walk for the students every day and the parents did not want the kids to haver to do that every day because they thought that it would be really dangerous for them.

This article is about how they have found out that some of higher up people in Germany have been found to have plagerized some of their writings and speeches. this just goes to show that there is so many ways to be caught doing things in this day and age. with all the new technology you need to be more careful with what you do and say because it will eventually come back to you and cause you great harm.

Funds Down for Pre-K Programs

State funding for pre-k has gone down sigificantly in the past few years and i think this will cause alot of problems with the students when they go into normakl classes. Kids learn the most within the first 6 years of life and i think that kindergarten and pre school should be the last things we cut in the education system because that is the time were they learn the most.

This is an article about a ,other how lied about twhere she lived so she could put her 5 year child into a better school trhen where she lived.
i think that it is sad that she had to go to such desperate measures to give her kid a better life. she is facing seriouse jail time for doing this though. i know that she broke the law, but i just dont see how what she did could be punished so severly. What she did was not something out of anger and i dont see how it negativly hurt anyone else. I think that a child should be given equal education all over America because obiously there is something wrong with how are education system is being run now.

I do believe that a teacher should not be safe from being fired from their job just because they have tenure. Our number one priority should be about the kids and not about the adults. When people talk about this issue they always seemed to forget about how these changes will affect the students. With all these budget cuts on the education system, all of the new teachers, that could be really great at their job or only fired because of the fact that you can’t get rid of the teachers that are protected by their tenure. A teacher should be kept because they are doing a good job, not because they have been there longer then another teacher.
Although I do believe that there should be some type of change to the teaching tenure, I do not think that teacher’s evaluations should be based on how well their students do on a test. By having the students tests determine how well the state believes the teacher is doing, is not only putting a lot of pressure on the teacher but it is also putting a lot of unneeded pressure on the student. If this bill will be allowed to pass I believe the kids today will be even worse off than they were be for in education. Having so many tests does not help a student learn, the only thing they are learning to do in school, is how to take a test.
I believe that teachers should be evaluated every 5 years, but they needed to be evaluated based on observations done by the principle and these observations should not be told they are going to happen before hand. The teacher should not know that they are going to be observed, so they do not have time to prepare a great lesson for that day and then go back to their normal teaching patterns. This type of evaluation will take the stress of the student and will allow then more time to learn from their teacher and it will more accurately evaluate the teachers with tenures.
